“Armenia is a platform in the EAEU, for establishing communication between the EAEU and Iran. This way the possibilities of Iran are growing. New demand for Iranian business will be formed in EAEU”, said Karen Mkrtchyan, touching upon the RA President’s statement that Armenia is negotiating with Iran on behalf of the EEU.
As to the possibility of transiting Iranian gas to Europe through the territory of Armenia, he stressed that Iran has only recently thrown the EU and US sanctions off over the past few years. “Those should not be linked to Armenian-Iranian relations. There is a promising development in all spheres between Armenia and Iran. Another issue is that such programs are just being embodied”, said Karen Mkrtchyan.
Touching upon the US new sanctions against Iran, the expert noted that the US continues its anti-Iranian policy: “There are no full-fledged relations between the United States and Iran, those are mediated. From time to time application of the US sanctions impede Iran to establish full-fledged economic relations with neighboring countries”.
According to Mkrtchyan, as long as the US imposes sanctions against Iran, Iran will face economic weakness: “However, Armenia’s close relations with the EU allow Iran to deepen relations with Armenia”.
