“September onwards developments will occur in the region, Armenia has an opportunity to understand them as well. Particularly, the weakening of the Turkish influence within the region will result in the increase of Iran’s significance and role. With this respect the President of the Republic of Armenia’s visit to Iran was important”, informed Orientalist and Turkologist Ruben Safrastyan.
He noticed that the Republic of Armenia was the sole country from South Caucasus to be present at the President of Iran Hassan Rouhani’s inauguration at presidential level: “This witnesses that the relations of Armenia and Iran grow from bilateral level into a regional factor which has a stabilizing role.”
As stated by the expert, the circumstance that Azerbaijan has not participated in the ceremony at presidential level shows that Azerbaijan tries to seriously review the regional policy: “From one side it does not participate in president’s inauguration ceremony thereby leaving a message to the US, implying that it pursues the policy of the latter in the region, from the other side it declines to partake in NATO’s military exercises in Georgia without a reason. And this, in turn, was a message to Russia.”
