The President of “Heritage” party Raffi Hovhannisian had announced still during the session of the party that they are open to cooperation and want to unify the opposition field, extend it. The Board member of the party Susanna Muradyan had informed that Raffi Hovhannisian and the Vice President of “Heritage” Armen Martirosyan had held meetings with both parliamentary and non-parliamentary forces. What forces they have met with and what agreement they have acquired is not publicized.
Aravot.am asked the Vice President of “Free Democrats” party Anjela Khachatryan whether “Heritage” had met with them on that question. She replied: “Not yet, we learned about it from the media and the speech made in their session, the latest interviews. No other suggestions or meetings have taken place.”
Anjela Khachatryan told that the unification is a very positive phenomenon overall and while solving any issue in political field a unity should be in place: “We have always been for the unification, but have put a stress on an important circumstance, it should be important to those who actually want the unification to give results and not to be artificial, it is the unification on ideological basis. Forasmuch as the years show that even if unification was in place around any goal and when the ideological basis has been put aside reasoning that it is not that much important and is not urgent, anyway, all issues, disagreements, and splits have taken place on that very ideological basis eventually. Therefore, as during the elections, when we were speaking of unification and always highlighted that the ideological basis is very important, now as well ideological similarities are very important in solving any problem. If the political forces do not have similarities in relation to domestic or external policy, they will not succeed in the process they initiate.”
Asked whether she considered the unification of the opposition around struggling against the sole issue of Serzh Sargsyan’s upcoming vice presidency possible, Anjela Khachatryan answered: “The ideological basis is the most important thing, artificial unifications will not lead to anywhere and bring any result, and who will be the vice president-who not, is still early to speak about, in my opinion. In the autumn everything will be clear and “Free Democrats” will inform about their position. Naturally, our political agenda has not changed, our session will take place in the near future during which the agenda whereby we have been guided and which was different from the agenda brought forth by other political forces will be raised once again. We will continue to cooperate with all political forces which want and will be compatible with their ideas and principles, we are open for cooperation.”
