Gevorg Gorgisyan doubts that the people will rebel against Serzh Sargsyan to be prime minister, because, according to him, most of the population has sold their right to appeal for 5 years.
“Yelq” bloc member Aram Sargsyan said in recent interview that the ruling party wants to split their opposition, so that “Yelq” cannot fight against Serzh Sargsyan’s plan of becoming prime minister in 2018. According to him, when Serzh Sargsyan assumes the post of prime minister after 2018, “it is obvious that it will raise a wave of disappointment”. And who will protest that? “Sasna Tsrer” are in prison, so only “Yelq” bloc is left. They must split “Yelq” bloc, just as they split the ANC”.
Aravot.am asked “Yelq” faction secretary Gevorg Gorgisyan whether they will succeed in splitting the “Yelq” bloc, whether there are grounds, whether that’s possible. He answered, “Practically, there are no disagreements within the “Yelq”, that is, any sign that can foretell or prompt that the “Yelq” can ever be destroyed, there is no such thing at the moment”. In response to the question, why the authorities have planned to split the “Yelq”, whether there is no other opposition, Gevorg Gorgisyan said, “Only the “Yelq” bloc opposes their global vision of the Armenian colonial state. Most other parliamentary and even extra-parliamentary forces, when earlier they had the opportunity to speak or take a step against joining the EAEU, for example, they did nothing. Only representatives of the “Yelq” bloc acted against that, and now they speak of Armenia’s independence, interests, energy independence, search for security alternatives, of everything that stem from Armenia’s interests, and maybe it is against the interests of some of our partners. But we are an independent state and we should be guided by our country’s interests”.
In response to our question, whether the other forces support Serzh Sargsyan to become prime minister, whether only the “Yelq” bloc is against, that the authorities want to split it, Gevorg Gorgisyan said, “Time will show. In fact, if there is no serious public revolt, no demand against Serzh Sargsyan to be prime minister, no political force is able to do anything. We have already passed through the cycle of changes, of change of power, which was the parliamentary elections. The next is five years later. And because the people went and elected the RPA somehow, you know, when we talk about vote buying, political forces buy not the citizens’ vote, but the right to protest within the next five years. Those whose votes have been bought will no longer have the right to protest, and they will hardly rebel against any of the RPA decisions. As long as there is the RPA system, it makes no difference, who will take prime minister’s role, whether Serzh Sargsyan, or someone else, whom Serzh Sargsyan can appoint, and later dismiss, making him a scapegoat, as we have witnessed for the last several years”.
We clarified, whether it is not important who will become prime minister, as anyway the latter will be a Republican, Gevorg Gorgisyan answered, “Yes, if the RPA is going to appoint: let’s suppose not Serzh Sargsyan, but someone else is appointed, and Serzh Sargsyan continues to be the leader of the party, and so said to govern the country from the shadow, what’s the difference? What’s the difference, if all the levers are in his hands again? In the near future, the only option, that any political force can try to take any steps, will happen only in case of a public demand. And I doubt that this will be the case, because most of the population has already sold their right to appeal”.
When speaking to journalists in the National Assembly Sasun Mikayelyan, member of the “Yelq” bloc, said, “It would be better if Serzh Sargsyan was Prime Minister”, this caused a massive wave of criticism in the press and on social networks about the “Yelq” bloc being sold. In response to our question, whether now, in fact, he has such an approach about Serzh Sargsyan being prime minister, Gorgisyan answered, “Sasun Mikaelyan said that it would be better if he was appointed, and took the responsibility himself, rather than appointing his puppet. I agree in this respect. Do you know what happened after Sasun Mikayelyan’s interview? Again, as usual, the propaganda machine started to work against us. The title did not imply what Sasun Mikayelyan had said, even the context was distorted. The title as if “Yelq” supports Serzh Sargsyan went viral. A directed propaganda started against us”.
