Monument expert Samvel Karapetyan believes that there should have been a street named after Artsakh war hero Leonid Azgaldyan for a long time in Armenia.
Referring to some of the street renaming proposals, Mr. Karapetyan said, that he is not against. “For example, maybe Leningradyan street is worth keeping in Moscow or St. Petersburg, but not in Armenia, I believe. I welcome the renaming of the street after Leonid Azgaldyan, Artsakh war hero. There are individuals who have proven by their deeds that they do not need a time test. More than a decade has passed since Azgaldyan’s death, we are even late. There are people thanks to whom we are alive today, what is a street, not to name after them?”, said Samvel Karapetyan.
According to him, any issue should be considered from the perspective of the welfare of the Armenian people: “History itself points out what has unfairly been praised, and we can make the right choice. I also support the renaming of some streets of Yerevan… only worthy people should have place in Armenian people’s mentality, and we need to get rid of those who have been guided by purely party interests.
Let us remind, that the “Yelq” bloc has proposed to rename the streets named after Communists, and Bolsheviks in Yerevan with the names of national heroes. It is suggested to rename Leningradyan street after Leonid Azgaldyan, Artsakh war hero, renaming proposals are also being discussed on the streets after Sargis Kasyan and Anastas Mikoyan.
