Registration is now open for the Seventh Annual Meeting of the Conference of Regional and Local Authorities for the Eastern Partnership (CORLEAP), which is due to be held on 12 September in Brussels. The event will look at the future of the Eastern Partnership from the perspective of local and regional authorities (LRAs), as well as their contribution towards the 20 deliverables for 2020 for the region.
The meeting will also look at building more effective partnerships through increased ownership, delivering tangible benefits for citizens, and the role of regional and local authorities. Registration is open until 6 September.
CORLEAP consists of 36 regional and local politicians: 18 from the EU’s Committee of the Regions and 18 from the six Eastern Partnership countries. The body is co-chaired by the President of the European Committee of the Regions and a representative from the partner countries whom is elected by CORLEAP members each year. The EU is currently represented by Mr Karl-Heinz Lambertz, while the partner countries are represented by Mr Aleksandr Popkov (Belarus).
The Eastern Partnership (EaP) is a joint policy initiative between the EU and its six eastern neighbours: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine. The last EaP Foreign Affairs Ministerial in May 2016 confirmed the view shared by both EU Member States and EaP Partner countries that the EaP needs to focus on delivering tangible results to citizens.
