‘It must be prohibited and for everyone’, Levon Mkrtchyan calls for teachers to stay away from political processes

August 25,2017 19:36

Aravot.am inquired Levon Mkrtchyan, Minister of Education and Science, as he has submitted a plan to raise the role and authority of the teacher, whether he thinks that the raising of teacher’s authority is not impeded by the fact that they are being involved in the elections, are making lists, and that is why people rank district authorities above from teachers. The minister answered, “The goal of what I said is the following: to save our teachers and schools from political processes. The school should become a place for providing education, consolidation, knowledge, and skills. I agree with you, we should try to do it gradually. We have already made steps in higher education, not to make it apolitical, rather to take the institution out of the processes, because after all the parties rely on intellectuals, we have 37,000 teachers, they may be involved, but they must save their schools from all of these processes”.

In response to our question, whether he, as a minister, will forbid the teachers to engage in electoral processes, the minister said, “We forbid every time, but you see the result. We have to make sure that we really have mechanisms for forbidding. Every time we state this, but it must be prohibited and for everyone”.
