Zhirayr Sefilyan’s lawyer Tigran Hayrapetyan does not blame the public defender engaged in the case of his client, for not rejecting to come to court. “I have an impression as if the judge does not understand what goes on, he says we should implement an efficient defense, meanwhile the judge knows the public defender has not met with with Zhirayr Sefilyan and is not authorized to conduct a defense from his side, but in such circumstances the judge imposes on the lawyer to conduct the defense, this is ridiculous. What could the public defender do in this circumstance? She had to either take a sit or leave the session hall. In both cases, nothing would have changed. If she left the hall she would have received a disciplinary notice, another lawyer would have performed instead of her”, informed Tigran Hayrapetyan.
Let us remind you that political activist Vardges Gaspari has conducted a demonstration in front of the public defender Marine Tovmasyan’s house because the latter does not reject going to the court.
Referring to the criticism implying that Marine Tovmasyan contributes to Zhirayr Sefilyan’s conviction without defense by going to court, Tigran Hayrapetyan noted: “She has announced in the court – I am not a defender, in this case, the judge should not appoint her a defender, but the judge says – it is fine, take your seat and do not conduct the defense. For Zhirayr Sefilyan’s interests, this was the best gift we could have for applying to the European Court.”
