“Such remarks would have been correct if we spoke about the struggle for a position. We speak of the salvation of advocacy. Advocacy is not decided by number, it is decided by quality. I personally do not cherish any hopes relative to the Chamber since long ago. I see the salvation of advocacy in having an alternative structure”, stated Tigran Atanesyan, referring to the presidential elections of the Chamber of Advocates.
Let us remind you that the sole candidate nominated in the presidential elections, Ara Zohrabyan is re-elected as the President of the Chamber of Advocates of the Republic of Armenia.
After the elections opinions were circulating in social networks holding that the results of these elections are the evidence that Ara Zohrabyan is right in the conflict of advocate camps. “1002 advocates are factually in favor of the unlawfulness taking place in Chamber. Of ordering an article, organizing an attack, illegal disciplinary proceedings, etc. Such results of the voting do not deny what I said, on the contrary, they completely confirm it. This is binding to me to continue my struggle”, told Tigran Atanesyan.
The results of the elections were not surprising to another opposition advocate, Yervand Varosyan. He thinks that they were not surprising to anyone: “They were pre-decided, as anything in Chamber today. Do they change a situation? I think – not, forasmuch as the questions we rise have never been aimed at taking ay position or depriving someone of his/her desirable chair. We have raised any issue we have seen and grounded it, we will again raise and ground any issue we see from now on as well, by again emphasizing that in the field regulating the advocacy, not everything depends on persons, we will proceed with the steps being initiated or to-be-initiated towards structural changes in the Chamber of Advocates, as well as the sole option providing the development of advocacy – the demolition of the monopoly of a one chamber.”
