“Today’s topic – capitalism, emerged from our everyday life. If you can note a field where it has no significance, we will pass to the fields I have listed”, young artist Gor Gyurjyan explains his painting “100 Dollars”.
It was exhibited in Yerevan Modern Art Museum for the first time on September 9. The solo-project entitled “97%” was aimed at representing not a complaint against capitalism, but the overall situation in the current world.
The graduate of the State Academy of Fine Arts, Gor has worked on the paining for 1 year and 4 months. He has painted it by oil colors: “I have used the little brush”. He intends to exhibit the painting in New York in the future. He considers that honesty is necessary in art the most: “I do not prefer any certain direction in art. It should be very sincere. That is, it is subject to change. My main topic is the human with his/her everyday life and feelings. I try to manifest myself in art as honestly as possible.”
By the way, Gor has lost a few kg. of weight while painting this work.
As a response to the question, implying whether another currency may appear as the next topic, he smiles and says: “This has taken from me too much energy to try for the second time.”
The title of the exhibition – “97%” is noteworthy. We asked Gor to explain that idea: “Let us consider the painting as an art field. The banknote takes 97% space within the painting. Assuredly in our life it takes no less space as well. Of course, all this is symbolic.”
