“Do not make Karabakh a coin and a means to purchase Azerbaijan’s EAEU membership. I have told this still when the Republic of Armenia became the member of the EAEU. By that Russia solved its issue in RA’s part. It should solve its issue relative to Azerbaijan as well. How..? Azerbaijan does not need money and does not have security issues, it can be attracted by only one thing – giving Karabakh to it”, informed political scientist Ara Papyan discussing the issue of the perspective of Azerbaijan’s membership to the EAEU.
At the same time he noted that it is not favorable to Russia to give Artsakh to Azerbaijan, forasmuch as in that way it will lose the lever it possesses in relation with the Republic of Armenia and Azerbaijan, but Russia will try to make some changes in favor of Azerbaijan: “That is – to pay for Azerbaijan’s membership. It is spoken about the surrender of regions… Nevertheless, I think that the issue will remain in the air and it will make Armenia and Azerbaijan be dependent upon Russia.”
Afterwards, Ara Papyan labeled the opinion of the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, Eduard Sharmazanov, implying that the risks of starting military operations on Artsakh-Azerbaijan border will be reduced after Azerbaijan’s membership in the EAEU as a nonsense. “Sumgayit, Baku incidents took place when we were the member of the Soviet Union, but that union did not prevent the genocidal actions towards Armenians”, recalled Ara Papyan.
