“Such activity is possible within the state, to give the fatherland a help equal to what the soldier gives”, this is Hayk’s opinion. He is from the group of students initiating the strike against limitation of the right to deferment. He was also present at the meeting with PM Karen Karapetyan.
“Zinuzh” media program has published some details from the meeting taken place at the government between the students struggling against the demolition of the right to deferment and PM Karen Karapetyan, Defence Minister Vigen Sargsyan and the Minister of Education and Sciences, Levon Mkrtchyan.
Hayk’s overview surprises the PM. “Does this bill reject it? How?”, asks the PM. “Even the people who can give equal benefit, we take them to army”, continues Hayk. “And who told so? If he does not serve, then he can become a scientist, if does serve – then he cannot? How come? By what standards will you define the talented ones? Eventually, the law says – if he complies with these and these standards, then he is granted with the right to deferment, if not – then this option is implemented”, opposes the PM.
Hayk notices – in case of sports, precise standards exist, the same can be applied to the science, to decide on certain standards, in case of which the right to deferment will operate.
Defence Minister Vigen Sargsyan reminds – he has told these things in the Parliament – international olympiads, student symposiums, etc.
He is not against granting deferment by similar versions in the field of science – pursuant to the decision of the government, limiting the maneuvers of people who want to escape military service under its veil. “In case of the scientists, the standards should be estimated a little bit differently, but it is not impossible, we try that already: it is already several calls to conscription we try to implement that and the Ministry of Defence has nothing to do with it”, informed the Defence Minister.
