No official ideology

November 21,2017 12:38

Russian “Zvezda” state television commentator recently referred to the ruling Republican Party’s emblem, noting that it resembles the Third Reich emblem. Then she repeated the claim voiced often enough in Russia recently, that Garegin Nzhdeh (who is almost the same for the RPA as Lenin for the Communists) was actually a fascist.

As for the eagles, then those are depicted on dozens, if not hundreds of symbols, including the Russian coat of arms. As for Nzhdeh they should clarify what they mean by calling him “fascist”.

I do not know in what extent the television commentator lady expresses the official point of view. Judging by the fact that “Zvezda” has removed her “analysis” from their site, as I understand, not to great extent. Although the video is still on the Internet. It is not that important: a foreign commentator has expressed official, semi-official or unofficial opinion, which can be taken into consideration, but to act according to own agenda, including signing an agreement with the EU.

For me, and I think, for the majority of Armenian citizens, Garegin Nzhdeh is a national hero, liberation struggle devotee, thanks to whom the Turkish-Azerbaijani militants could not seize Syunik. Nzhdeh’s political views, quotes, articles, in my opinion, do not constitute a coherent and systematic unity and are only of historians’ interest. Making the ideology of “Nzhdeh” something like Marxism-Leninism is an untimely and senseless matter.

Accepting the hero, his deeds, it is not necessary to accept his mixed, contradictory thoughts, moreover, to make those an ideology. No one, I suppose, doubts that Charents is a genius poet regardless his Bolshevik views. There can be neither official nor a “dominant” ideology today.

… Finally, 90 percent of the Republicans are not interested in Nzhdeh. Many of them have been, and the majority are ready to be a member of any other party, only to be able to maintain their money and position.
