‘Armenian ‘manoeuvre’: what Gazeti.ru Armenian source tells about Armenia-EU agreement?

“Gazeti.Ru” has received the concluding statement of the Eastern Partnership summit after its end in Brussels, in November 24, within which, as noticed by the author of the article of the Russian media, no notice of Crimea and Donbas issues exist: instead, it is witnessed that Armenia has signed Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement with the EU. The concluding statement, as stated by the media, constitutes in particular: “The participants of the summit welcome the signing of this agreement. The participants welcome also the most serious progress implemented towards preparing enhanced partnership agreement with EaP countries and Azerbaijan.” The article of the Russian media source highlights: “The new agreement between Yerevan and Brussels presupposes an enhanced partnership in a set of fields. Armenia will receive means for the aim of civil society development, fight against corruption, alternative energy development and, most importantly, business development opportunities. The agreement assumes entry of certain Armenian products into the European markets”, “Gazeti.Ru” has been given the preceding explanation by the source close to the Armenian authorities. As stated by the latter, the agreement with the EU will also allow to develop programs in education, environment management and science and technology fields. “Our Republic will be able to use a series of European technologies. Our scientists will be able to visit EaP countries to participate in research programs in partnership with the EU”, explains the source, emphasizing that in line with all that, Armenia will continue EAEU membership, which has been started since 2015. “It has been our principal positioning, to cooperate with the EU and the EAEU simultaneously, inasmuch as both  are useful to us in their own way: EU countries agreed on this”, concludes the interviewee of “Газеты.Ru”.

The concluding statement of EaP summit also implies that EaP countries are strictly consistent in entering into negotiations on free visa regime. With this regard, “Gazeti.Ru” source stresses that Armenia-EU agreement will not demolish visa regime between Armenia and EU states itself, however, it will become a factor which the parties will take into consideration on the way of reaching an agreement on free visa regime.
