We should be united to fight against Turkish denialism and attempts of fascism heroization: Eduard Sharmazanov to Sergey Antufiev

November 28,2017 16:05

On November 27, the RA NA Vice President Eduard Sharmazanov met with the Acting Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council Sergey Antufiev in Tauride/Tavricheskiy Palace within his working visit to Saint Petersburg. The RA NA Permanent Representative to the IPA CIS Hayk Chilingaryan also attended the meeting.

The RA NA Vice President congratulated Mr Antufiev on being appointed Acting Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council and expressed hope that the IPA CIS would continue its effective work during his tenure.

Eduard Sharmazanov has highlighted the role of the CIS and its parliamentary component and has added that the RA NA delegates are active both in the works of the Assembly and in the Commissions. Noting that this year has seen the 25th anniversary of the formation of the IPA CIS, the RA NA Vice President has underlined that the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly has also a great role in the peaceful settlement of the regional conflicts. In this context he opined that the IPA CIS as an international organization should act from the positions of the peaceful settlement of the conflicts.

Noting that next year will see the 70th anniversary of the adoption of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, Eduard Sharmazanov highlighted the condemnation of the Armenian Genocide and in general, the ‘genocide’  phenomenon by the IPA CIS parliamentarians.

“Only by condemning we can prevent the perpetration of the new crimes against mankind. Today, it is timely to remember Hitler’s famous words: ‘Who, after all, speaks today of the annihilation of the Armenians?’ I am sure that we should condemn both the Turkish denialism and the attempts of fascism heroization,” the RA NA Vice President said.
