‘Not about frozen conflict at all’: Jonathan Lacôte on Karabakh conflict

The newly appointed Ambassador of France, Jonathan Lacôte is surprised at the depth of the Karabakh conflict that exists in the Armenian society.

At a press conference at the National Press Club, French Ambassador to Armenia Jonathan Lacôte assured that the conflict should be settled peacefully based on the principle of the right of peoples to self-determination and territorial integrity.

The ambassador said he was aware that, from 2017 to date, 57 soldiers were killed at the border. Jonathan Lacôte stated: “It is not about a frozen conflict at all. This is a real conflict that has become a heavy burden on the Armenian society, the government of Armenia, the state of Armenia. We are concerned with this issue”.

The ambassador assured that France is determined to take up the work, which should lead to a peaceful settlement of the conflict.France demonstrates its determination to fully implement the commitments it has assumed in the Minsk Group. We have expressed our positive opinion about the meetings held in Geneva and Vienna, and the meetings to be held at the beginning of the upcoming year”.
