“No shakes changing the situation were in place”, speaking about the situation on the border, announced political scientist, Hrant Melik-Shahnazaryan. He noticed: “The incidents on the border which were frequent at the beginning of the year, decreased in the second half and the situation is quite stable now. From military perspective, the Republic of Armenia undertook quite serious operations and measures in the field of weaponry. This means, the April lesson of 2016 has been learnt very well and the issue of reaching military supremacy has been solved.”
As stated by Melik-Shahnazaryan, they have positive expectations from 2018 and for making the abovementioned operations continual.
Hrant Melik-Shahnazaryan states that the international public puts serious pressures on Azerbaijan, in the result of which Azerbaijan’s approaches are more conciliatory.
The expert assures that the year began unsuccessful to Azerbaijan: “They entered 2017 by a scandal connected with espionage, when they started imprisoning various military figures and a lot of them were killed without trials by the police officers. This shows that serious problems are in place within Azerbaijan internally. Domestic disagreements were present connected with the Minister of the Defence and the Chief of the General Headquarter, which resulted in the formation of a serious environment of distrust towards the Armed Forces. 2 dozens of military officers were killed during the inner developments, and the espionage scandal continues up to present. Days ago we learnt from Azerbaijani media that new soldiers and shepherds were imprisoned accused of cooperation with the special services of the Republic of Armenia.”
Asked whether inter-political developments are expected in Armenia in 2018, Mr. Melik Shahnazaryan replied that in essence those issues were decided upon by the Constitutional referendum of 2016, and in 2018 merely technical issues will be solved.
