Serzh Sargsyan reminds Armenia being threatened with sanctions in 2008, whereas now they talk of achievements

January 25,2018 14:06

“Armenia proved that it is able to combine its involvement in various international organizations, becoming a model of cooperation”, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan announced during the plenary session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) winter session.

The Norwegian delegate addressed a question to Armenian President whether what achievements could he talk about, reminding that he will mark the 10th anniversary of his tenure this year. Serzh Sargsyan responded by an example:In 2008, when I was elected as the President of the Republic of Armenia, we had great challenges and tense relations specifically with the Council of Europe. We were threatened with sanctions. Ten years later, we talk about Armenia’s achievements. We consider ourselves Europeans regardless of whether Europeans consider so or not. Our cooperation stems from our conviction, and nobody imposes it on us”.
