Turkey concerned about Macron’s statement on Armenian Genocide

February 02,2018 13:46

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Chavushoglu reacted to French President Emmanuel Macron’s statement on the Armenian Genocide.

Let us remind that the President of France, Emmanuel Macron had promised to include an “Armenian Genocide Commemoration Day” in the calendar.

According to the Turkish “Haberler” news agency, journalists asked Chavushoglu whether how the possible adoption of such a decision would affect Turkish-French relations.

“What then if the question is put on the agenda or not? France speaks of the right. But there is a court decision. The word genocide is not a political, but a legal term. The French Constitutional Court has made a decision on that issue. If France believed in the right, then there would be no need to bring the issue to the agenda. There is also a clear verdict of the European Court of Human Rights in the case of “Dogu Perincek versus Switzerland”, which is beyond the internal law of the country”, said Chavushoglu.

Let us remind that the French Constitutional Court canceled the bill criminalizing the denial of the Armenian Genocide on January 27, 2017.
