As we have already informed, “Yelq” faction leader Nikol Pashinyan met with Yerevan State University students at the National Assembly and answered their questions.
One of the students asked about the Karabakh conflict settlement, the compromise of the Armenian side.
Pashinyan said that solving the issue through compromise is very logical, but today everyone understands that this is not possible. “In case of a compromise, each of the parties should at least express its willingness to show what they are ready to concede. I do not see that Azerbaijan is ready to concede anything. Talking about compromise as an end in itself can even be harmful. When someone says, I will come to kill you, destroy your house, and you say let me say something too: I am ready for compromises, this is ridiculous.
Pashinyan said that the logic of “no inch of land” is based on the logic of Azerbaijan. “They say we are going to reach Etchmiadzin, we say, let us concede some of the liberated territories, where is the logic here?”. According to Pashinyan, if we give up something, they will not say, well, we are already brothers, they will demand new concessions.
According to him if now the government announces about giving up territories, the people will freak out, but if the government makes sure that Azerbaijan will recognize the independence of Karabakh and give up some territories for it, the people will accept it, because they will understand what they gain instead.
Pashinyan also touched upon the April war, saying: “The April war was a disgrace to us because it turned out that the frontline was neglected, absolutely neglected”. He stated that although they say that the front line was equipped after that, the information was not correct, and if they do not voice it out today, tomorrow they will regret it. He said though it is a sensitive matter, he had to talk about it. “After the April war, I blamed myself for previously stating that in most cases it was the problem of the army , that we did not need not talk about the army, not let Turks get informed about it, as a result, we had a problem”.
