Davit Harutyunyan disagrees fight against corruption is ineffective

Oftentimes people say that the results in the fight against corruption are not seen, told the Minister of Justice, Davit Harutyunyan, representing the results of the government’s activities towards the fight against corruption. “The fight against corruption is not a fight the results of which can be seen in a month. However, when I mention what steps we have undertaken, it should be an indicator to you if this will have a positive influence on the process or not.”

The Minister told they took 6 steps with the aim of fighting against the corruption last year. In particular, they have criminalized the illegal enrichment, restricted all-cash deals, and integrated a tool called property and income declaration.        

Aravot.am stated that the representatives of the international institutes indicate especially the judicial system when speaking about corruption, because of which they might avoid of making investments in our country. We also reminded Mr. Harutyunyan that they grounded raising the salaries of judges with the very fight against corruption years ago.

Mr. Harutyunyan responded he disagreed with the statement that the international entities insist corruption in the judicial system has not decreased. According to him, a public survey has been made at EU’s initiative and pursuant to the results, there is a tendency of trust increase in our country: “If you give me a question whether the judiciary has changed or not, then, as a person having taken the position of the Minister of Justice formerly, I assure you – the answer is precise: yes, it has changed essentially.”
