It is not a good sign when history textbooks often change, and when people’s names appear and then disappear from there. This means that the basis of the state is ramshackle and that it cannot “digest” its past. In the Soviet Union, for example, it was clearly visible. One of the organizers of the Bolshevik coup and one of the creators of the Red Army, Lev Trotsky, was initially “presented” in history textbooks as a “positive hero”, but later he was referred to only as a “political prostitute”. Though the Soviet state seemed powerful and eternal, there was some rotten, unhealthy principle in its basis.
I want to have nothing like that in our state. The reason that I am writing this article is, of course, deletion of Jirair Sefilian’s name from textbooks. Sefilian is in favor of an armed political struggle and has always been such. It is bad, wrong, dangerous for the state. Many people understand this but do not dare to say, because they know that several hundreds of supporters of armed struggle on Facebook will “devour” them. But deleting Sefilian from history textbooks is also wrong, I would say that it is even cowardice when it comes to the Artsakh war and especially the liberation of Shushi, the work done by this knight of the Combat Cross, his courage and devotion must be mentioned.
Vazgen Sargsyan played an important role in the falsification of the 1996 elections, the establishment of the fake political and economic system, and the 1998 palace coup. Many people know this as well, but again they do not dare to speak out because in this case they will be accused, “how can Sparapet’s memorial… ?”. But now it is wrong to start some actions to rename the streets. Vazgen Sargsyan is more than worthy to have streets, squares, and halls after his name, he is one of the main creators of our army and our military victories.
Samvel Babayan is one of the creators of the same, more severe system in Artsakh, it is also unacceptable to speak about it. He also has many mistakes and sins (although, in the case of “Igla”, to be honest, I did not understand what was his fault). But nobody has the right to deny Babayan’s exceptional services during the war.
Heroes like us, ordinary people, have virtues and flaws. Why not simply to write in history textbooks that during the war they have done this and that heroic deeds and after the war this and that uncertain deeds?
