President of the Football Federation of Armenia, Ruben Hayrapetyan, answered journalists’ questions after awarding the players who won the “Best Player of Armenia in 2017” nomination. He touched upon the rumors about the establishment of two new football clubs by Gagik Tsarukyan.
“Yes, two new clubs have been established. The Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs met with me and we discussed this question. They said they were going to open two new clubs. I told them that I would not allow establishing two clubs having the same funding source, as FIFA and UEFA forbid to have two clubs from the same financial source at the same championship.
Our charter does not allow either for a club to appear at the highest team at once. I told the Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs that “Erebuni” club has financial problems. By my encouragement and advice they negotiated, took the “Erebuni” club, which will soon be renamed, I think, to “Kotayk”.
Although “Erebuni” might not win an awarding place, then we will make a decision by the executive committee so that at least four teams to join the highest team at the same time so that we have ten teams. This is in accordance with the jurisdiction of the Federation and the Executive Committee”, Ruben Hayrapetyan stated.
