Though what happened, why it happened and how it happened is very interesting, but there will be many occasions to talk about it. Now it is more important to think how to get out of this situation with honor and reinforce the already existing tendency to raise our international credit rating.
And the two most important conditions for that progress are: 1/to show the world that our political forces are mature enough to come to an agreement with each other, 2/to take the process through flawless legitimacy. (By the way, the first president’s remarks, which at first glance seem to be secondary, also raise the same problem).
Neither our citizens nor the world should have the impression as if a coup took place in Armenia and that the power was occupied. The Prime Minister of the Parliamentary majority resigned because that majority has no public support, and the Parliament elects the minority Prime Minister, Nikol Pashinyan and forms a minority government by organizing early elections in the near future. David Shahnazaryan made this suggestion on “Shant TV” yesterday.
In that case, the coalition of the parliamentary minority, the “Tsarukyan” alliance, the Armenian Revolutionary Federation and the “Yelq”, take the responsibility of the government. Republicans remain the majority, and assume the role of opposition. At the special session on May 1, a number of MPs said that it is impossible, but it is possible and there is international experience. An arrangement is reached between 4 factions for the Electoral Code, the terms of the new elections and some other principal issues. I think that in this case it is also important that the Republican Party maintains its unity.
Of course, working with such a mechanism for a few months or a year would be difficult, there should be permanent contacts, negotiations, consultations between the four factions. But the internal political situation is complicated, and the MPs should realize their mission. The President of the republic will be the guarantor of the implementation of the agreements.
Of course, all this will happen if the Republican Party faction is honest this time and really votes for Pashinyan on May 8.
