“Azerbaijan is an important partner to Russia. If we “quarrel” with Azerbaijan, it is not favorable to the Republic of Armenia, inasmuch as that escalation neutralizes the possibility of Moscow’s pressure on Baku,” announced Russian political scientist, Sergey Markedonov during the interview.
As regards Russia’s arms supply to Azerbaijan, the political scientist reminded that the Russian Federation is not the only military partner of Azerbaijan: “In that field Ukraine, Israel, Turkey are also Azerbaijan’s partners. Turkey is a NATO member and trains Azerbaijan’s military officers, meanwhile NATO states it is neutral in Artsakh issue.”
As stated by Markedonov, Moscow has learnt from April military operations: “And how the situation will evolve will be clear in the near future. In any case, Russia will have normal relations with Azerbaijan as well. Let us not forget that if Russo-Azerbaijani relations are escalated, the Turkish factor will become stronger in the region.”
Russian political scientist added – the Republic of Armenia remains as the strategic partner of the Russian Federation, and Azerbaijan – as a problematic, but an important partner.
