“I consider the Defense Minister’s resignation unacceptable before the appointment of the new Minister under the challenges of the Republic of Armenia”, said Defense Minister Vigen Sargsyan, commenting on yesterday’s statement that the moment has come to say farewell as the head of the army.
At the press conference, answering the question whether the Minister resigned or not, Vigen Sargsyan said that nothing can stop him from carrying out his duties until he knows who has assumed the duties of the Minister: “Yesterday I announced that I exclude my further work in the new government, because the Minister of Defense and any minister, in general, are not being hired. It is not about patriotism or professionalism. It is a political office, a matter of political views, a team, unity and a deep trust because being an effective minister is very difficult if you do not have a team of supporters if you do not care about the same problem. Therefore, of course, I cannot continue my office. But as I said yesterday, I rule out that I am isolating myself from the processes in any way”.
According to Vigen Sargsyan: “I believe that one can serve the society, the country, the people in different statuses and a position is just one of its means”.
Referring to the resignation, Vigen Sargsyan said that our Constitution does not imply the resignation of the Minister of Defense, and it is enough for the new Minister to be appointed and he will stop being the Minister of Defense from that point.
