3 questions to Nikol Pashinyan’s friend from Ijevan

May 15,2018 16:35

Vahe Ghalumyan is a member of Ijevan Community Council. We asked him about being Nikol Pashinyan’s classmate, about Pashinyan’s political path and being his supporter. Ghalumyan said:

“My brother has been his classmate, we are peers and close friends. I remember his admission to the university and the beginning of the journalistic activity in the mid-nineties very well. People started talking about Nikol, the number of his followers was increasing. We often talked about his activities and when he told me about his decision to start publishing his own newspaper, I was shocked. The decision was made: “Oragir” started to be published.

The first step in politics was the “Alternative”, “Impeachment” bloc, followed by the 2008 presidential election, imprisonment and so on.

Nikol’s successes inspired me, and in 2005 I decided to be nominated as Ijevan City Council member. My friend’s support is the most important for me, he even participated in the voting. I have always followed and participated as much as possible in the political processes that Nikol was involved in. I participated and devoted myself to the recent political processes. The movement reached Ijevan, several thousand marches and rallies reflected our people’s stance”.

We asked what changes he expects in Armenia and particularly in Tavush province as a result of the people’ movement. He said: “Changes and the results will not make us wait for long. Armenian citizen will no longer tolerate injustice, vote buying, corruption, monopoly, and clans. In Tavush, the people are happy and proud to say that Nikol is from our region”.

We asked Ghalumyan if he was offered a position. He said no, they have never discussed such a thing.
