Within the frameworks of the events dedicated to the European Day, the opening ceremony of the “EU-Shirak marz, new vacancies thanks to the wool production” program financed by the Armenian government and the European Union took place in Amasia community of Shirak region.
Let us remind that the program financing is 350 thousand Euros,100 thousand of which will be spent for the purchase of wool processing equipment.
The event was attended by high-ranking guests, EU Ambassador to Armenia Piotr Switalski, newly appointed Minister of Territorial Administration and Development of the Republic of Armenia Suren Papikyan, Minister of Agriculture Arthur Khachatryan, who was the governor of Shirak province when the program launched.
In her speech Varduhi Dadunts, head of the Armenian office of the “People in need” NGO, noted that it will open 60 new vacancies, and that the program, launched on March 1, this year, has a two-year duration. She also noted that the program will promote the development of sheep breeding in the region, providing stable income for local farmers.
Head of Amasia village Jemma Harutyunyan expressed hope that with this program some migration will be prevented. According to her, migration rate is quite high in their community.
Piotr Switalski considered it a nice program, noting that the European Union aims at ensuring the development of the regions of Armenia.
Minister of Territorial Administration and Development Suren Papikyan also spoke about the Armenia-European Union joint projects, said that the Ministry attaches great importance to the balanced development of regions and that since 2009, it has been in dialogue with the European Union.
