Demetris Syllouris Avoids the Question on Armenian Revolution

“Armenia is one for us. We have other approaches towards our cooperation with the Republic of Armenia. We do not have any party-specific approach,” announced the President of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Cyprus, Demetris Syllouris.

Armenian journalists had asked what opinion he had about the Armenian velvet revolution. Demetris Syllouris answered he wanted Armenia to be strong: “Armenia’s quite rich history, culture and civilization are on its ground.”

Asked whether a meeting with the PM of the Republic of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan is planned, Demetris Syllouris replied: “Our plan is publicized.”

During the joint press conference succeeding the meeting with the President of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Cyprus, Demetris Syllouris, the President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, Ara Babloyan highly assessed the bilateral parliamentary cooperation. He emphasized the contribution of the state representative of Cyprian-Armenian community, Member of the Parliament of Cyprus, Vardges Mahtesyan in the development of inter-parliamentary and inter-state relations.

The President of the National Assembly, Ara Babloyan said that together with his colleague, they had discussed the proposal of the President of Cyprus – to create a trilateral Armenia-Cyprus-Greece joint committee. They have addressed the issues of Artsakh and Cyprus: “Armenia and Cyprus have always supported each other’s positions on the resolution of issues at international platforms. We have also discussed the issue of the recognition of the Armenian Genocide. Cyprus is the first country, which has recognized and condemned the Genocide. Under the national legislation of Cyprus the denial of the Armenian Genocide has been criminalized.”
