Samvel Babayan’s supporters again hold a demonstration in front of the Cassation Court of the Republic of Armenia for the protection of the rights and freedom of political prisoners.
Addressing the Chairman of the Criminal Chamber of the Armenian Court of Cassation Serzhik Avetisyan, Director of the Research Institute of “Polyteconomics” Andranik Tevanyan announced: “Today, we again came together to demand concrete answers from the Court of Cassation. If they are watching us right now, I appeal to the President of the Criminal Chamber, Serzhik Avetisyan, to prepare the answer as we will meet them today. We would like to get acquainted with the process of the case. Based on the changes in political reality, it is obvious that the political prisoners must be released”. Mr. Tevanyan informed that more than a month ago an application was filed to the Court of Cassation to consider Samvel Babayan’s acquittal verdict, but they have not received any response yet.
Mr. Tevanyan said they are waiting for the answer whether what is the attitude of the Court of Cassation towards the motion to change the detention as a preventive measure. Andranik Tevanyan noted that he was informed that the Head of the Criminal Chamber is ready to meet with him as one of the organizers of the rally and give explanations on the process in the presence of the mass media. Now the meeting is being discussed.
