“It is a reality and it took place yesterday”, Republican MP Mihran Poghosyan, told reporters in Parliament yesterday, commenting on his assistant’s arrest. The identity of one of the suspects committing violence on Ulnetsi street, on April 21, during Velvet Revolution days, was uncovered and the latter was detained. On that day, at around 13:30, citizens partially blocked the Ulnetsi highway within the framework of the protest action, during which two “Porsche” cars approached them. A group of people got out of these cars and started hitting the people and cars blocking the street. One of them was Mihran Poghosyan’s assistant.
Mihran Poghosyan is sorry for what happened and for those who recently were arrested or invited to the relevant bodies. He expressed hope that the relevant bodies will be impartial and everything will be clear within 1-2 days. In those days he walked around the community: “We have been able to avoid road blocking, and to find solutions through dialogue and consensus”.
Journalists asked whether the assistant could act so without the MP’s approval. Mihran Poghosyan said that knowing his assistant, he hopes that what happened is a misunderstanding and his assistant has not been there. But he cannot guarantee that his assistant has not been there: “I can be a guarantor only for myself”.
He urged the relevant bodies to be impartial: “Not to perform certain vendettas, certain ungrounded steps. After all, everything will be clear and we will bring evidence where the young man was. I urge all of us to wait 1-2 days, when we have more information and understand what has happened”.
