Jerusalem Post reports that the issue of the recognition of the Armenian Genocide, which the Israeli Knesset would review on May 28, was removed from the agenda.
Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein’s Press Secretary, explaining this decision, said: “The reason was to avoid the disgrace of the Knesset because it was not clear whether the majority would vote for the resolution”.
Yuli Edelstein has repeatedly expressed his support for the recognition of the Armenian Genocide and did the same a few days ago. In particular, he said that the time has come for Israel to join the 28 countries that have recognized the Armenian genocide. The Speaker also criticized his colleagues who support this step exclusively as a diplomatic response to Turkey’s anti-Israeli policy.
