Syria has recognized the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, reports the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of South Ossetia.
As stated in the message, the sides have announced on remaining loyal to the fundamental principles of the international law and confirmation of mutual recognition and diplomatic relations.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of South Ossetia, Dmitri Medoyev, commenting on the decision of Damascus, has said that the preparation process has lasted a few months and the work in this direction proceeds.
“This is one of the most important event for our country, Syria, as well as our fellows of the world,” he mentioned.
The independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia is recognized by also Russia, Nicaragua, Venezuela, Nauru, Vanuatu and Tuvalu.
