“I believe that the “My Step” people’s movement was the result of dissatisfaction accumulated in the society that forced them to go out to the streets and fight. In my estimation, however, the Armenian society still does not know what the policy of the new government will bring in the future”, said Daniel Mitchell, an economist from the United States, in an interview with Aravot.am and “Public Radio” at the discussion organized on the international experience of revolutions.
“My wish is that Armenia turns into a regional “lion”, such as Chile, in Latin America. Armenia should make a big jump in economic growth, but at this point, it is not clear how far it will succeed. As you know, many representatives of the Armenian-American community are successful entrepreneurs. Based on this I suppose that if Armenia makes an effective economic policy, the population will be able to benefit from it”, said the expert.
Whether how the fact that Armenia has a new government will affect the Armenian-American relations, Mitchell avoided giving assessments, only noted: “My impression is that the issue mostly voiced in Washington regarding Armenian-American relations is the propagation of the recognition of the Armenian Genocide, which also may affect Turkish-US relations”.
