“Nikol Pashinyan has a huge internal agenda to deal with. I am sure that this will be his immediate priority. He has confirmed the continuity of foreign and security policy in relation to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict as well. Sooner or later he will develop his own position on these issues”, said a member of the Advisory Board of the “European Policy Center”, executive director of the British LINKS Research Center, former coordinator of OxGAPS of Oxford University, Dennis Sammut, referring to the current situation in the Nagorno Karabakh conflict zone and the approaches of the newly elected authorities of the Republic of Armenia.
In response to the question whether what are Russia’s benefits in the Nagorno Karabakh conflict zone after Pashinyan’s victory, he said: “I do not think there is any doubt that at present Russia wants to maintain its hegemony or at least the privileged position in the South Caucasus. For many years Russia has used Karabakh as an instrument in this strategy. Russia did not benefit anything from Pashinyan’s victory. At present, its strategy is to try not to lose anything anymore”.
