Russian Foreign Ministry on Pashinyan’s statement about Artsakh to be involved in negotiations

June 03,2018 15:33

PolyugaAny statement about the Artsakh conflict, which is not within the limits of the OSCE Minsk Group route, is, apparently, destructive. This was stated by Artyom Kozhin, the Director of Russian Foreign Ministry’s Information Department in response to the question whether to what extent the statement by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan about the fact that Artsakh should participate in the negotiation process on the conflict complicates the settlement process.

“Your highflown statements that do not fit within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group route are perhaps non-constructive”, said Kozhin.

Referring to the fact that Nikol Pashinyan renamed the Victory Day on May 9 Day of Peace and Harmony, Kozhin said: “The Victory Day of the Great Patriotic War has been and remains a sacred holiday for all peoples of the Soviet Union. Everybody remembers the price paid by the USSR to defeat fascism. As for the renaming of the holiday, there are some minor differences in different countries, which does not change the essence of the celebration… The Armenian people, who paid a great price to achieve the victory, will continue to celebrate it with us as it has always done”.

Kozhin also said that Armenian Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan’s visit to Russia is scheduled for June 7. According to him, the talks will focus on both bilateral and international issues.

“Opinions on Karabakh conflict will also be voiced where Russia plays an active role as a mediator along with the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs”, he added.
