Protest goes on in Stepanakert: demonstrators not satisfied with President’s response

June 04,2018 15:35

Azatamartikner street adjacent to the bus station in Stepanakert is again blocked by demonstrators. They gathered to hear about the results of the meeting between the members of the board coordinating the protest and President Bako Sahakyan.

David Simonyan, one of the organizers of the demonstration, said that Bako Sahakyan stated that the demands raised by them would be met and changes would be made in the system, but nothing was mentioned whether when and how. “Bako Sahakyan said he needs time because he has to examine the situation and obtain arguments, after which the demands of the demonstrators will be met”, announced Vardan Astsatryan, a coordinating member of the protest, noting that the President assured that in case of failure he would be ready to resign and come and stand by the demonstrators.

Then, addressing the demonstrators David Simonyan said that the President asked them to leave the street promising that their demands would be met: “Now, do you agree to leave and wait for the fulfillment of the demands?”. The demonstrators did not agree. David Simonyan announced that based on the demonstrators’ response, the protest will continue until the demands are met.
