The speaker of the Republican Party of Armenia, Eduard Sharmazanov had informed the journalists that the Republican Faction was not going to hinder the adoption of the Government program.
Asked if one could presuppose that by voting in favor, the Faction accepts the provision of the Government program on the extraordinary elections, Eduard Sharmazanov replied that no question is in place in the political system on which the Republican Party is not ready to evolve dialogues and discussions: “But the extraordinary elections are not a concert to order. And the political forces should approach the extraordinary elections, as our colleagues say, under the amended Electoral Code. We should have a large consensus for us to have an amended Electoral Code, we should have the professional and positive estimation of the international expert organizations, Venice Commission encompassed. We should understand where the amendments we make in the Electoral Code and those resources – financial included, come from. We should understand in how much time we are able to do that. I am against both artificial prolongation and premature amendments. If both us – all political forces and the civil society find that the Electoral Code is subject to amendment, we should sit and start a very serious professional discussion.”
