The Minister of the Foreign Affairs of Sweden, Margot Wallström has announced that presently the Government of the country cannot recognize the Genocide of Armenians and Assyrians carried out in the Ottoman Empire.
As reported by Turkish “Hurriyet” periodical, the Minister has informed of the aforementioned during the interview to Swedish state channel – SVT.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sweden has mentioned at the same time, that the recognition of the Genocide is not excluded in the near future, but it is impossible now.
Swedish “Dagen” website reports that Wallström has emphasized that suchlike decision does not have an implication of flattering Turkey, which denies the Genocide of Armenians and Assyrians of 1915.
Earlier, on May 1, the Prime Minister of Sweden, Stefan Löfven had made a similar announcement.
Let us remind you that on 2010, the Parliament of Sweden adopted a bill on the recognition of the Armenian Genocide, and later on the Government decided to suspend the bill and act on the ground of the researches of the independent institutions.
