‘Diaspora has no right to demand anything from Armenia’: Vartan Gregorian

June 10,2018 15:33

“Diaspora has no right to demand anything from Armenia. Diaspora should help Armenia which has a Government and other state bodies. Giving money is not the issue, but devoting yourself is the issue. Each of us should do the possible to make Armenia one of the most developed countries,” announced the co-founder of “Aurora” international humanitarian prize, the President of “Carnegie” Corporation of New York, Vartan Gregorian.

He further said: “We have two “lungs” – the big one is Armenia and the small one is the Diaspora. If one is in danger, the other one should breathe until the one under danger is recovered.”

Speaking about his expectations of changes in Armenia Vartan Gregorian said: “Armenia has issues – landlocked from two sides, Artsakh issue… I think education and the health of the people should be number one priority. It is important what economy and education Armenia will have in the upcoming 50 years.”

Vartan Gregorian added that today a number of Diasporans wish to return their fatherland and make changes. “If they do not want that we should make them come,” he joked.
