“Gyumri without makeshift shelters” foundation donated a 3-room apartment in the Ani district to the Sahakyans’ family. Their 5-member family, two daughters of which are underage, the son serves in Artsakh, lived in one of the makeshift shelters in the Botanic Garden, fighting against rats. They have lived there for 20 years: the children were born there.
Argentinean-Armenian benefactors, Minasyans’ family, bought the apartment for them. Minasyans’ daughter, Luciana Minasyan, who lives in Buenos Aires, was in Gyumri last year, and accidentally witnessed a house donation ceremony. She also expressed a desire to donate an apartment on behalf of her family in the future. Gharib Harutyunyan, Executive Director of the “Gyumri without makeshift shelters” foundation, informed that the total amount of the apartment, 12 thousand dollars, was donated by the Argentinean Armenian family. They wanted to donate an apartment to a family with underage children.
Bishop Mikayel Ajapahyan, leader of the Shirak Diocese, also participated in the ceremony, who expressing gratitude to the Minasyans’ family, told how he had got acquainted with them with the help of Bishop of Buenos Aires, Maghakia. Luciana Minasyan, in turn, told that her father, David Minasyan, is close to Father Maghakia, current spiritual leader of Buenos Aires, through whom they got acquainted with Mikayel Ajapahyan. She also said that her mother insisted: “Luciana, you must go to Gyumri and make your father’s desire come true”.
Karine Sahakyan, the hostess of the apartment, told Aravot.am that when Mher, the coordinator of the foundation, visited them and told they would receive an apartment, she was surprised: “To be honest, I did not believe, I did not have the hope at all, I got very happy…”, told Karine Sahakyan. Luciana, who has grown up in Argentina, is going to bring her 3 daughters to the homeland.
