EU Sustainable Energy Week celebrated in Armenia

June 14,2018 16:04

EU Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW) was celebrated in Armenia from 4 to 8 June. The week was launched with an exhibition of sustainable energy technologies in Aparan, Aragatsotn province. The event, organised by the “EU for Armenia’s Sustainable Energy” (EU4ASEP) programme, also involved intellectual competitions for youth and flashmobs. The celebrations continued on 5 June in Artik, with a youth event dedicated to the sustainable energy transition.

As part of EUSEW in Armenia, the “Sustainable Energy Development Prospects in the Communities of Armenia” conference was also organised. The conference’s participants – members of the Government of Armenia and the EU Delegation, representatives of the Energy Saving Foundation and the Communities Association of Armenia and state, private and professional stakeholders – discussed the prospects for sustainable energy development, legislative, financing and public-private partnership issues, and opportunities for renewable and sustainable energy development in the communities of Armenia.

The EU4ASEP programme is part of the EU4Energy initiative and implemented by the Energy Saving Foundation and the Communities Association of Armenia under the umbrella of the EU’s “Covenant of Mayors – Demonstration Projects” programme.

Covenant of Mayors – Demonstration Projects (CoM-DeP) are part of the EU4Energy initiative. EU4Energy covers all EU support to improve energy supply, security and connectivity, as well as to promote energy efficiency and the use of renewables in the Eastern Partner countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine). It does this by financing projects and programmes that help to reform energy markets and to reduce national energy dependence and consumption. Over the long term, this makes energy supply more reliable, transparent and affordable, thus reducing energy poverty and energy bills for both citizens and the private sector.
