Daniel Ioannisyan, responsible for the draft Electoral Code, met with the MP from “Tsarukyan” alliance, Naira Zohrabyan in the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia.
After the meeting he informed that all parliamentary and non-parliamentary forces, NGOs, national minorities were suggested taking part in the discussions connected with the Electoral Code. He further informed that meetings with all major players have taken place except for the Republican Party of Armenia: “We have discussed, exchanged with ideas, presented, listened to what they imagined. All of the mentioned was carried out before even changing a word in the draft. The RPA refused to take part in the discussions explaining as if a committee is going to be formed in the Parliament. In any case, I said we would not like to start working on the draft without having discussed it with all parties. The inclusion of all parties is in our interest, but it is their right. The first draft will be prepared without the Republicans,” informed Ioannisyan.
Asked if it meant that the draft to be presented to the Parliament would make up a consensus-1 against the RPA, Ioannisyan replied: “No, before presenting it to the Parliament it is going to be discussed, it will be also put to discussion with the parliamentary parties and I am hopeful the RPA will already take part in those discussions.”
