On June 20, the Chairman of the RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations met with the Member of the Petitions Committee of the Bundestag of the Federal Republic of Germany Gero Storjohann.
Welcoming the guest in the National Assembly, Armen Ashotyan highlighted the relations existing between the parliaments of the two countries – the opportunities of its development, highlighted the activation of cooperation between the Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Groups.
During the talk the sides touched upon the European vector of Armenia’s foreign policy. In this context Armen Ashotyan has underlined that the relations are considered to be one of the cornerstones of the agenda of Armenia’s foreign policy with the European Union and its member countries.
With regards to the effective implementation of cooperation within the framework of the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement Armen Ashotyan has noted that Armenia is hopeful to get the final ratification of the European side before the 2019 elections of the European Parliament.
Regarding the ratification of the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement in the German Parliament Armen Ashotyan expressed hope that the process would be implemented as soon as possible.
The sides touched upon the inner-political processes of Armenia and the upcoming parliamentary elections. “The electoral reforms should be made by political agreement, public involvement and except international principles, particularly on the basis of the recommendations by the Venice Commission and OSCE/ODIHR,” Armen Ashotyan noted.
At the meeting thoughts were also exchanged over the effective use of the oversight mechanisms: the study of the European experience and in accordance – the use of experience.
The Member of the German Bundestag expressed hope that he met with Armen Ashotyan in autumn in the German Bundestag as a Head of the Armenian-German Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group to discuss numerous other issues of cooperation and mutual interest.
