On June 19, within the framework of the visit to Albania the NA Deputy Speaker, the Head of Armenia-Greece Friendship Group Eduard Sharmazanov met with the Head of the PABSEC Hellenic delegation Konstantinos Morfidis.
Eduard Sharmazanov touched upon the Armenian and the Greek peoples’ centuries-old friendship and the common historical past. The NA Deputy Speaker highlighted the strengthening of the relations existing between Armenia and Greece and the expansion of the spheres of cooperation.
Touching upon the cooperation of the parliamentary delegations of the two countries in the international structures, the sides highlighted the necessity of supporting each other.
Speaking about the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement signed between Armenia and the EU, Eduard Sharmazanov expressed hope that the Hellenic Parliament would ratify it in a possibly short term.
Touching upon the Armenian Genocide international recognition process, the NA Deputy Speaker expressed his gratitude to Greece for passing a bill establishing criminal responsibility for the denial of the Genocide. He underlined that the Parliament of Armenia in its turn adopted the NA Statement on Condemning the Genocide of the Greeks and Assyrians Perpetrated by Ottoman Turkey in 1915-1923, and he is the co-author of it.

The NA Deputy Speaker referred to the events occurred in PABSEC Parliamentary Assembly. He expressed confidence that in the PABSEC Secretary General office the best candidate should be the representative of the state having no conflict with member states and having great tradition of democratic values. To the NA Deputy Speaker’s conviction, one of the most important features should be impartiality, which should be considered in the process of holding the elections.
