Famous Turkish actress Meltem Cumbul, who was born in Izmir and lives in Los Angeles, touched upon Turkey’s internal developments and her relations with Armenians.
In an interview with reporter Gokce Albayrak, the actress noted that while living overseas, she more closely follows Turkey’s internal developments, looks at everything more objectively, sometimes becomes happy by the state of Turkey, and sometimes gets completely disappointed.
“For example, the murder of Hrant Dink disappointed me. I live among Armenians there. The bank clerk serving me there is Armenian. I was ashamed to communicate with the latter. I did not visit the bank for a month. It seemed to me as if I was the one who murdered Hrant Dink. Thus, when I went to the bank after a month, I apologized to the clerk”, the actress told.
Cumbul noted that the behavior of Armenians living in the United States towards the local Turks has deteriorated after Hrant’s murder. “However, I try to put myself into their shoes and understand them. Therefore, in this regard, my job is to strengthen the relations there, which I have done and will do”, noted Cumbul.
