The situation on the border is tense, there are accumulations, and escalation of the opponent expected. Political scientist Aghasi Yenokyan, referring to the border situation, said: “Of course, the situation is not tense but too tense, the accumulations are enormous. These accumulations also bring Armenia’s adequate readiness, our troops are in a very tense situation because they are waiting for provocations at every moment”.
The political scientist said that until 2016 we thought that Azerbaijan would not start a war, but now there are other expectations: “Now if we look from the political point of view, we see that Azerbaijan has not solved its problems in the Azerbaijani-Karabakh conflict. We see that it is not able to solve the problem through diplomacy and now it wants to try to apply the method of the threat of force, to try to solve its problems, Of course, there is no guarantee that it will solve its problems and will not deteriorate its situation, but at least they are now trying to deny the diplomatic path”.
After the April war, the OSCE Minsk Group decided to introduce monitoring mechanisms, but Azerbaijan does not want to make even these tiny diplomatic steps. In response to the question whether the change of military-political elite in Armenia in this tense situation was not dangerous, Aghasi Yenokyan said no, “Professional officers are appointed. Moreover, the former Defense Minister, Vigen Sargsyan, was not a professional soldier at all, and a rather well-prepared official has been appointed instead. I do not think that any of our generals are less professional than others because everyone has taken part in military operations, all of them have a sufficiently high level of military preparedness, worldview…. I do not think that Nikol Pashinyan would appoint a worse general”.
