Today the session of the parliamentary working group on the amendments to the Electoral Code of the Republic of Armenia took place. At the beginning member of the Republican Party of Armenia, former minister of defence, Vigen Sargsyan asked why the representative of “Transparency International” anti-corruption center was present in the meeting. The Secretariat of the National Assembly replied that the representatives from the mentioned center had applied and they approved their presence. Vigen Sargsyan mentioned he was not against the presence of the NGOs, but the opinion of the commission was to be asked.
As regards the Electoral Code, Vigen Sargsyan said: “The current Electoral Code is a political document which was adopted upon the agreement of all political forces. In case of the Electoral Code, we formed a political will back then and provided a document, which was acceptable to all political forces. In any case consensus is important.”
Afterwards Lena Nazaryan from “Yelq” bloc presented their proposals. The first one referred to creating equal conditions for propaganda in military units: “Political forces should hand their propaganda materials to the Ministry of Defence and the latter should distribute them among the military units for the soldiers to get acquainted with the programs of the political forces as well.”
Vigen Sargsyan disagreed: “Was it not the way you mentioned previously?”
