Our Argentinian-Armenian compatriot, filmmaker, actor, and journalist Jack Poghosyan has initiated an Uruguayan Film Festival in Yerevan for the fourth time, which is held under the aegis of the Uruguayan Ministry of Tourism, Sport, Education and Culture, the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in Argentina and other structures. The screening of the films began on July 5 at the Henrik Malyan Theater and will be over on July 7.
By the way, it was Jack Poghosyan who had initiated a cultural exchange between the countries of Armenia and the Rio de la Plata River, organizing a screening of Argentinian tango films.
In an interview with Aravot.am, Jack said that the aim of the Uruguayan film screening is to present the peculiarity of the Uruguayan films, stressing that films are a unique cultural tool that can contribute to the deepening of cultural ties between the two countries. By the way, Uruguay is the first country that has recognized the Armenian Genocide, which has a large Armenian community.
Jack Poghosyan intends to provide the films in the original language with English subtitles to Armenian universities, particularly to Yerevan State University, for a free screening. He also wants to donate English and Spanish books to the university. The films of Uruguayan Film Festival this time are Ana Katz’s “My Friend from the Park”, which won the award for screenwriting at the Sundance Festival in 2016, Diego Arteaga’s “Last train”, Adrian Biniez’s “The Waves”.
Jack Poghosyan highlighted the importance of the role of Uruguay’s Armenian Minister of Tourism, Sport, Education, and Culture, Lilia Keshishian, said she always contributes to pro-Armenian initiatives.
During the interview, we touched upon Jack Poghosyan’s film about Borges. He said that it will be an animated film, and the first screening will take place in France. The film is called “August 25, 1983”. Jack is going to write a book about Armenian cuisine and says that gastronomy is also a beautiful part of the culture.
During the interview, we also touched upon “Golden Apricot”, as, during the festival, Jack Poghosyan always visits the homeland and participates in all the events. He recalled that for the first time he got acquainted with the festival’s founders Harutyun Khachatryan and Susanna Harutyunyan in Buenos Aires during another festival. Then he started participating in the “Golden Apricot”. He thinks it always keeps the bar on a high level. The Argentinian filmmaker also touches importance to the “Armenian Panorama” program of the festival, says that one can watch all these films only in the framework of “Golden Apricot”.
“The role of “Golden Apricot” is important for the whole region.. I am personally thankful for the “Golden Apricot”, thanks to which I was reborn in Armenia, I speak Armenian when I visit Yerevan thanks to the “Golden Apricot”, noted Jack Poghosyan.
