The conference titled “Azerbaijan-Russia’s only ally in Southern Caucasus”, within the framework of which Russian political analyst Alexander Dugin, Maxim Shevchenko, State Duma deputy Dmitry Sevalyev, military expert Igor Korotchenko and others climbed the Lele Tepe Hill, has received great attention in Armenia.
The above mentioned Russian figures took part in the conference in Jojuk Merjanli village on July 1, visited positions, met Azerbaijani soldiers, got acquainted with their service conditions. “At the end of the meeting they wished Azerbaijani soldiers successful service”, Azerbaijani media wrote. Russian figures also made speeches in Azerbaijan. “Armenia should return Nagorno-Karabakh and the 7 regions to Azerbaijan without preconditions”, said the representative of the Russian State Duma. In his turn, Dugin spoke about the agreement on returning the five regions to Azerbaijan, which is allegedly a Russian plan, and so on.
In an interview with “168 hours”, Russian political scientist Fyodor Lukyanov commented on whether to what extent Russian positions presented in Azerbaijan coincide with the position of the Russian authorities, and what Azerbaijan tries to prove with similar events.
“There are official positions, there is the Kremlin’s position, the expert does not represent a position or make decisions, the expert analyzes. Such actions are more like an informational attack, that target both Armenia and Russia, which does not welcome the current martial rhetoric of the Azerbaijani authorities, does not support the war policy, which is neither in the interests of Russia nor of Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan would like the positions expressed by the experts to coincide with the Kremlin position, but it is not so, and it is not me to report the Kremlin’s position, it is being regularly reported at the highest level”, said Lukyanov. According to him, the message of Azerbaijan is one: Azerbaijan is not satisfied with the policy of Armenia and Russia. “But it finds it difficult to start a war without the support of any partner”, he said.
